24th March 2020 – Japanese

I have been away for a few days, so haven’t studied my cosmetics exam book for a while. I was going to get back on it today, but there was an English novel I really wanted to read. It’s important for me to read in English because this is the language I translate into. I haven’t done much English reading this year, so I decided to take a few days off the cosmetics exam preparation and read some English.

I’m translating a lot these days, so I’m still keeping in contact with Japanese.

24th March 2020 – French

I have been away for a few days and did no study during the time I was gone. I got back on it today though.

I studied the passe compose. I took it slowly, learning each of the regular past participles for each kind of verb. I think I’m just going to have to learn the irregular past participles. I managed to get most of the exercises right so I was pleased with that.

I didn’t move on to negatives, interrogatives and adverbs with the passe compose. That’s for another day!

I only managed 30 minutes today. Hopefully I will get more done tomorrow.

24th March 2020 – Chinese

I went away for a few days, and didn’t do any study. I got back onto it today though. I did units 20 and 21 in my HSK level 3 textbook.

Unit 20 was about the present continuous an the continuous aspect. There are so many ways to express the present continuous in Chinese. I need to practice using them to get used to the patterns.

Unit 21 was about the finished action and change. Both use the particle “le”. I have trouble with this. I understand the concept, but using it is a different story. I think understanding which “le” is used (finished aspect or change aspect) is just something you have to get used to and to a certain extent guess from context.
